SPEAKING OF PICTURES … Teen-Age Ballet Was Inspired By “LIFE” Story. Steffi Nossen, who has taught modern dance in Europe and the U.S. for 20 years, frequently finds ballet ideas in news events. She also encourages her students to translate such ideas and their emotions about them into dance steps. When LIFE published an essay on teen-age girls, it looked like a natural for the Westchester County, New York schoolgirls in her Teen-Age Dance Workshop classes. It also looked like a natural to the girls, to whom the translation into the dance steps of their normal behavior was almost no translation at all. The “Teen-Age Ballet” was first perfomed at Mamaroneck, New York “… A long, hearty laugh at themselves,” opined Mamaroneck Daily Times. On this page the ballet enacts a teen-ager, Diane Walter, doing her homework while listening to the radio. ….. 1945 LIFE Magazine Picture, A5962. 19450528
